Every single year, a custom gingerbread house is created for the Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland.  And each year, the creative minds seem to outdo themselves, building more elaborate and interesting designs.  This year, the gingerbread house in the Mansion ballroom scene is under attack by a giant spider, who has wrapped it up in its webbing and is threatening to tear it from its foundation and take it back to its own abode!  It’s another fantastic scene, and a great example of what happens when holidays collide!

Oogie Boogie takes over Disney’s California Adventure entrance, with an oversized silhouette beckoning guests through the main entrance — surrounded by a swarm of bats around Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge.

Walt and Mickey, surrounded by jack-o-lanterns, gazing over their kingdom, which has taken on a spooky aesthetic.  Halloween Time is a gorgeous time of year, particularly during the nighttime.

The piece is intimidating and spooky–a fantastic example of the great atmosphere at Buena Vista Street during Halloween Time.  After sundown, it’s even better–smoke billows from the horse’s glowing nostrils, and the ambient soundscape really amplifies the eerie environment!

Cars Land is the breath-taking Ornament Valley at night.  During this time of year, the rocks are cast a rainbow of colors, instead of the usual warm red hues.  Purples and greens bathe the geology, with a little bit of yellow and red sprinkled in.  It’s a very dramatic change from the norm, and I find it absolutely beautiful.  And it’s not until one stands there in person, taking in the enveloping and chromatic landscape, that the full effect really sinks home.

The Halloween vibes continue down Buena Vista Street to Carthay Circle, home to a statue of the Headless Horseman, as seen in Disney’s own ‘40s classic The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. It’s a deep cut perfect for the season.

• Kai the Koi Fish who’s epitaph reads,“He has gone to a Betta place” .
• Penny the elephant,“Where Pachyderms reside with worms within a tomb most elegant. You’ll find long gone our mastodon Beloved Penny, the elephant.”. Above the tomb is the statue of a mouse which presumably scared Penny to death due to the myth that elephants are terrified of mice. Penny’s tomb is in reality a cleverly disguised exhaust chimney for the Disneyland railroad.
• Big Jake the dog who’s epitaph reads,“Here lies my good dog Jake chasing a toad down a well was his one mistake”.
• Miss Kitty the cat who’s epitaph reads,“In memoriam Miss Kitty after losing eight lives you still had no fear, you caught a snake in your ninth and that’s why your here”.
• Bully the frog who’s epitaph reads, “You didn’t drink, you didn’t smoke, I just cant figure out what made you croak”. The statue of Bully also features a hole in the mouth where cast members claim they sometimes find cigarettes left by guests.
• Stripey the skunk,“In loving memory of our pet Stripey, you may be departed but your scent will linger on”.
• Fifi the poodle.
• Old Flybait the frog,“He croaked. August 9th, 1869”. His date of death is a referance to when the Mansion first opened.
• Rosie the pig,“She was a poor little pig but she bought the farm. 1849”.
• An unnamed cat with no epitaph which is surrounded by the small tombs of five birds.
• An unnamed pet rat ,“In memory of my Rat whom I loved, now he resides in realms above”
• Long Legged Jeb the spider, “Got tangled up in his very own web”
• An unnamed fish who’s date of death was October 10th, 1867.
• An unnamed pet snake who’s epitaph reads, “Here lies my snake whose fatal mistake was frightening the gardener who carried a rake”.
• An unnamed rabbit.
• An unnamed squirrel who’s tomb resides underneath the shade of a tree.
• Freddie the bat who died in 1847, the epitaph is written upside down and says, “We’ll miss you”.
• Buddy the dog, “Our friend to the end”.
• Lilac the Skunk who died in 1847,“Long on curiosity short on common scents”.

ace Mountain becomes Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy during Halloween Time. This overlay is created using new projection effects and a spooky soundtrack onboard the roller coaster. The rides regular feeling of optimistic space exploration transforms to focus on a darker and more menacing theme. Plenty of people come out screaming from this more intense ghost infested space rollercoaster. While the ride is fantastic for teens and up, this may not be the time to bring young children on Space Mountain, especially if it is their first time riding.

Several times daily, the uplifting show A Musical Celebration of Coco brings together the Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia and the Grammy-award winning Mariachi Divas for a festive show of music and dance that tells the incredible story of young Miguel’s journey as seen in “Coco.” New this year, this charming troupe of singers and authentic Folklórico dancers is joined by Miguel, brought to life in a whimsical, hand-crafted style inspired by traditional Mexican folk art.

Ramone pays tribute to Día de los Muertos at Ramone’s House of Body Art. Ramone celebrates this time when families gather to remember their loved ones with a traditional “ofrenda” display honoring the gone, but not forgotten, Doc Hudson.

The Guardians of the Galaxy’s Mission: Breakout becomes “Monsters After Dark” at night. They darken the exterior, then add new lighting effects, as part of a new storyline. The ride goes from being about breaking out to Groot being left behind, now in need of a rescue from Rocket. The new version of the read even includes a Guardians-style song, but instead of a real ‘70s deep cut, it’s an original called “Monsters After Dark” written by the movie’s composer.
